Konami also added some voice clips for the gang, as well as some insanely catchy music with extraordinarily high sound quality. While the character sprites are the same as in Goemon 3, the backgrounds are some of the system’s best. There are some town segments with minor puzzles to solve, which are annoying if you don’t know Japanese, but are a relatively minor impediment. The levels are fairly short, though, and there aren’t as many as Goemon 2. You’ll still need to gather special powers for your characters, retaining some of the adventure game feel. Each character is marooned on their own planet, and these must be conquered separately before your team can reunite. This game reintroduces the stage select from Goemon 2.

(“Harakiri” and “seppuku” are both methods of ritual suicide.) Unable to let his followers down, Impact flies his friend into outer space to save the day. Mistaking him for their leader, they begin to worship him, but the planet is soon attacked by the devious Harakiri Seppukumaru. The Goemon Impact shows on the doorstep and learns of a planet filled with people that look just like him. He showed a couple of screenshots on of Goemon 2 last January, but I don't think he's working actively on it. I've been keeping and eye on GideonZhi's progress as well. I've never done anything beyond replacing text, but given the right instructions, maybe I could help (And I'm juuust starting to learn japanese, so if there isn't a real translator along the way, who knows)

I can edit sprites and do some very basic hex editing. If there's something I can do to help, I'd be very willing. I've been lurking your youtube channel for some time Since you're responding here, I assume here's the best place to keep an eye on the project. I'm very happy to see you're actively working on this and making progress! This means that all the Ganbare Goemon games probably use the same compression. I've also tested the recompressor with Ganbare Goemon 3 and it also works. I updated my recompressor and now I'm able to recompress the whole font correctly. Just having that would make the game much more enjoyable.Įither way, keep up the good work.

Since you're already working with the translations made by that one translator from youtube, please consider making a demo patch with those dialogues in. I just registered to say how excited I am to see a translation of these games. It combines LZSS with RLE, which is used to compress strings of zeroes into 2 bytes. This byte tells the game the length of the uncompressed data. Before uncompressed data you will always see a particular byte. The compression uses 2 byte pointers to reference previously used data. The game seems to use LZSS compression on graphics. However, now, the font is actually compressed and the rom doesn't need to be expanded. Previously I expanded the rom and tricked the game into loading an uncompressed font. This is a screenshot showing off what my recompressor can do so far. Games usually have pointer tables but in Goemon 3 pointers are scattered. However, dumping the script will take some time. I want to wait until I actually dump the script. These games are popular enough that someone is bound to follow if you can show your serious about finishing them. Do you have a translator lined up yet? If not I would suggest you get all of the hacking taken care of first. Great! Well I hope it works out and you're able to complete them.
